Squash & Vine: Connecting the Food Community • Masters Capstone Project

Conducted extensive user research and designed an online community connecting producers, consumers & retailers focused on promoting transparency within the food system and lowering barriers to eating locally.

TCHO: New Chocolate for a New Generation • Fall 2008

Designed and created interactive prototypes for three new lines of chocolate for Millenials.

CharityVis: Visualizing the Charity Sector • Spring 2008

Created an interactive, multifaceted visualization of the charity landscape.

SLickr: Flickr in Second Life • Spring 2008

Built a mashup that creates customizable representations of Flickr photo streams in Second Life

Free and Open? • Spring 2008

Analyzed the changing discourse and ideology in the Open Source Software Movement.

RFID: Contextual Awareness & Understanding • Fall 2007

Conducted interviews and compiled a report on peoples' perceptions and understandings of RFID-enabled technology.

Developed and trained a neural net to recognize text.

  • Developed unique design concepts and translated these concepts into technical and functional design specifications for the site redesign of an online social network connecting buyers and producers,  MediaMobz.
  • Worked with management to launch new versions of MediaMobz in a timely manner, which included managing testing & bug submission.

Technical Research Advisor • Dec. 2007 – May 2008

  • Worked with Professor Xiao Qing and his graduate students on the China Internet Project.
  • Advised professor Qing on the uses and affordances of an open-source platform for the China Digital Times, a collaborative news aggregater.
  • Designed and developed a prototype to map the news items on the China Digital Times according to specific tags (e.g. see all news items tageed "mine-safety" together on a map).

IT Consultant • April – Dec. 2007

  • Updated the business website for greater efficiency and utility.
  • Resolved technical problems with business computers and Booklog, an inventory and cash register program.
  • Streamlined and updated the yearly inventory process, cutting the entire process from 3 days to 1 and saving the store revenue for the extra two days.

Software Engineer & Consultant • May 2006 – Apr. 2007

  • Developed add-ons to open source project management software, including fixing the time card module, using PHP on a MySQL backend.
  • Consulted small businesses on how to automate their work-flow and customize their software.
